We expertly remove asbestos cement roofs, slates and Eternit, so you can then renovate or sell.

An asbestos roof is often recognisable by the corrugated sheets or slates made of asbestos cement, also known under the brand name Eternit. In Flanders, it is still present on many roofs of homes, barns and outbuildings built before 2001. As long as the roof is intact and no fibres are released, the risk is limited. But as soon as you start renovating, replace the roof or a leak appears, you want the asbestos to be removed safely. That's where a licensed removal contractor comes in.
Most asbestos roofs in Flanders are bonded. This means that the asbestos fibres are firmly embedded in the cement. For a roof in good condition, a simple procedure, one of the three techniques provided for by legislation, is often sufficient. We carefully remove the sheets or slates and wrap them airtight in foil of at least 100 microns.
However, not every asbestos roof is the same. Are the sheets damaged, weathered or broken? Then fibres are released more quickly and we use a heavier technique, such as a hermetic zone with negative pressure. Even if the asbestos is part of an under-roof or cladding, we first carefully assess its condition and accessibility. This determines the safest approach for your roof.

The Flemish action plan for asbestos removal focuses strongly on roofs and facades in poor condition. These pose the greatest risk of fibre release and are therefore given priority. The objective is clear: by 2040, all buildings built before 2001 must be asbestos-safe. Anyone who needs an asbestos certificate for a sale or renovation often sees that an asbestos roof is literally mentioned in the report. This certificate is drawn up by a certified asbestos expert and issued by OVAM. Credim is a licensed removal contractor and removes the asbestos indicated in that certificate. We do not draw up certificates or inventories ourselves, but we are happy to work with an expert in your area.
For those who are handy, it may be tempting to remove those corrugated sheets from the roof yourself. However, this is not a good idea. A private individual may only remove bonded, undamaged asbestos up to 35 square metres themselves, and only if it is screwed down and not glued or nailed. In addition, you must submit a demolition notification via the Omgevingsloket. Then there is the disposal: asbestos must be wrapped airtight, and at the recycling centre you can only leave 200 kilograms per year free of charge. You are not even allowed to take friable asbestos to the recycling centre yourself.
Moreover, a roof is rarely in perfect condition. When removing screws or stacking sheets, something can easily break. This can still release asbestos dust, exactly what you want to avoid. A licensed company such as Credim has the right materials, knowledge and experience to keep this risk as low as possible. We work in accordance with the rules of FOD WASO and ensure correct disposal.
At Credim, we always tackle the removal of an asbestos roof thoroughly. First, we come to inspect the site. We assess the type of asbestos, its condition and the substrate. Sometimes the roof turns out to have an asbestos under-roof, or there are asbestos-containing slates in the facade. We then need to deal with those as well. After that, we plan the work and explain step by step what will happen.
On the day itself, we implement the necessary safety measures. This can be a simple procedure for a roof in good condition, or a hermetic zone if the risk is greater. We remove the asbestos, wrap it airtight and transport it to a licensed processing facility. For asbestos disposal, you can count on our experience, even if you have already removed asbestos yourself and want it collected.
