Do you live in Brasschaat and have a house built before 2001? Then there's a good chance there's asbestos somewhere. Often in places you wouldn't immediately think of: a white, crumbly layer around the central heating pipes in the cellar, an old vinyl floor covering in the utility room, or those corrugated sheets on the garden shed. It's not always easy to recognise. That's why we come and have a look on site.

Typical asbestos in Brasschaat homes

Credim is a licensed asbestos removal contractor and works from Stabroek, so Brasschaat is close by. We know the homes in the northern edge of Antwerp well: many houses from the '60s, '70s and '80s, with typical asbestos applications. Think of pipe insulation that looks like white plaster around the heating pipes, often wrapped in jute cloth. Or vinyl floors with an asbestos-containing backing and that black, brittle adhesive underneath. And of course the asbestos roofs and cladding panels you still see on many garages and outbuildings.

When to have asbestos removed professionally

As long as you don't disturb that material, it usually remains safe. But during a renovation, a leak, or simply because you want to tackle it thoroughly, dust is released. And you don't want that in your home. That's why it's important to have asbestos removed professionally. Especially when it comes to asbestos pipe insulation or an asbestos vinyl floor: these are often non-bonded or damaged, and then you're not allowed to do it yourself as a private individual.

Removing asbestos yourself: where is the limit?

What are you allowed to do yourself? Bonded asbestos that is undamaged and screwed down, up to 35 m². But don't be mistaken: the rules are strict. And for anything that is glued or nailed, or where you're not 100% sure, you must call in a licensed company. At Credim, we master the three legal techniques: the hermetic zone with negative pressure, the glove bag, and the simple handling. This way we determine the right approach for each job. Removing an asbestos roof, for example, is approached differently than removing a piece of pipe insulation in your cellar.

Disposal and asbestos certificate

After removal, we also take care of the correct transport and disposal. Asbestos is packed airtight in foil of at least 100 microns and taken to a licensed processor. We handle the entire process, from the initial inspection to the final check.

Thinking about an asbestos certificate? That is mandatory when selling a house built before 2001. A certificate is drawn up by a certified asbestos expert, not by us. But if the certificate indicates asbestos, then we are ready to remove it. This way you prepare your home for sale.

Good to know

In Brasschaat, the same rule applies as everywhere in Flanders: an asbestos certificate is mandatory when selling a home built before 2001. Credim removes the asbestos, but you have the certificate drawn up by a certified asbestos expert.

Frequently asked questions

Where does asbestos most commonly occur in Brasschaat homes?
In homes built before 2001, you often come across pipe insulation in the basement, asbestos-containing vinyl flooring and tiles, and asbestos-cement corrugated sheets on garage or outbuilding roofs. Facade panels and window sills can also contain asbestos.
Can I remove asbestos myself in Brasschaat?
As a private individual, you may only remove bonded, undamaged and screwed asbestos up to 35 m² yourself, after a demolition notification via the Omgevingsloket. Non-bonded material, damaged material and glued floor coverings must always be handled by a certified removal company.
How do I recognise asbestos around my heating pipes?
Pipe insulation in houses up to the 1980s is often a whitish-grey, crumbly layer around the central heating pipes, sometimes wrapped in jute cloth. You cannot determine with certainty by just looking at it. A sample taken by an expert provides clarity. Do not scrape or sand it yourself.
What does asbestos removal cost in Brasschaat?
The price depends on the type of asbestos, the quantity and the level of difficulty. That is why we do not give standard prices. Request a free site visit and you will receive a clear, tailored quote.
How quickly can Credim come to Brasschaat?
Because we work from Stabroek, we are often at your place in Brasschaat within a few days. Contact us on 09 396 64 56 or info@credim.be and we will schedule a site visit.
