Flanders is discontinuing the separate asbestos premium, but you can still get a supplement through Mijn VerbouwPremie if you combine asbestos removal with insulation. We explain how it works.

If you have an old roof or an old facade in Flanders, sooner or later you will be dealing with asbestos. And if you want to have asbestos removed, you naturally hope for a grant. For years, there was a separate asbestos grant from OVAM. That no longer exists. Since 2024, asbestos removal has become part of Mijn VerbouwPremie, but only if you combine it with roof or facade insulation. Confusing? We understand. That's why we've set it out clearly.
The previous grant for removing asbestos roofs and asbestos facades has been abolished. That doesn't mean you can't get any support at all. You can get a supplement when you have asbestos removed in combination with insulation work. In concrete terms: you tackle your roof or facade, have the asbestos removed, and insulate at the same time. This way, you kill two birds with one stone and are rewarded for the asbestos removal.
The supplement is included in Mijn VerbouwPremie. You qualify if you have the asbestos removal carried out by a certified company and at the same time insulate your roof or facade. The grant is income-dependent and the conditions change regularly. That's why we don't mention any amounts here. They could be different tomorrow. Always check the official website mijnverbouwpremie.be for the current amount and conditions. You will also find the contact details of the Flanders Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA) there if you have any questions.

The application is made via the Mijn VerbouwPremie portal. You must submit the application before you start the work. Important: the asbestos removal must be carried out by a certified asbestos removal company such as Credim. You are allowed to remove smaller pieces of asbestos yourself, but a certified company is required for the grant. Also, just because you apply for a grant doesn't mean you no longer need an asbestos certificate. The certificate remains mandatory when selling, and by 2032 every building from before 2001 must have one.
If you are having your roof insulated, it is a good idea to have the asbestos removed first. This way, the insulation can be applied properly and you get rid of the asbestos in one go. The same logical order applies to facade insulation. Our people carefully remove the asbestos, after which the insulation boards can be fitted. The result is a more energy-efficient home, and the asbestos on that roof or facade is gone. A win-win.
There is no straightforward answer to that. The price depends on the type of asbestos, the surface area, the accessibility, and the technique used. Asbestos roofs and asbestos corrugated sheets require a different approach than, for example, internal insulation. Therefore, always request a tailored quote. At Credim, we come to look on site and give an honest price. This way, you know the price in advance.
Removing asbestos is not a job for the DIY enthusiast. Especially not when it involves damaged or friable asbestos. A certified company has the right techniques, such as a hermetic zone or a glove bag, and carries out the work in accordance with the legal safety rules. This minimises the risk of fibre release. Moreover, as a private individual, you are obliged to submit a demolition notification and you may only remove a limited surface area yourself. For anything larger or riskier, you should call in a professional. You can read more about this on our page about asbestos removal.
So the grant has not disappeared, but is now part of a broader scheme. If you combine your asbestos removal with insulation, you can still receive a nice contribution. Check the conditions on mijnverbouwpremie.be and contact a certified company for the asbestos removal itself.
A certified expert will visit, assess the situation, and give you a clear, no-obligation proposal.
