You want to have asbestos removed, but what will it cost? The answer is never a fixed amount. We explain why, and what actually determines the price.
An asbestos certificate identifies asbestos, and then you want it gone. That's logical. But the question "what does it cost?" cannot be answered with a single amount. No asbestos removal is the same. A corrugated sheet at the back of the garden is different from a cellar full of pipe insulation from the 1970s. The price depends on exactly what is there, where it is, and what condition it is in. That is why we always work with a tailored quote after a site visit.
Not all asbestos is equally difficult to remove. Bonded asbestos, such as corrugated sheets or cladding, is firmly embedded in a cement layer. As long as it is not damaged, the risk of fibre release is small. That makes a difference in the technique and therefore in the cost. Friable asbestos, such as the insulation around old heating pipes or the backing of vinyl floors, is much more brittle. Dust is released when you touch it. That job requires a stricter approach: indoors a hermetic zone with negative pressure, in the open air sometimes a glove bag. You will see that in the price.
Pipe insulation is recognisable by that white, crumbly layer around central heating pipes, often in the cellars of houses up to the 1980s. Sometimes there is still hessian cloth around it. You must absolutely not scratch it. Asbestos pipe insulation removal is always carried out by a licensed company. Old vinyl floors can also have an asbestos-containing layer, and that black bituminous adhesive underneath is not harmless either. Asbestos vinyl floor removal is therefore a job for specialists.

We master the three legal techniques: the simple handling, the glove bag, and the hermetic zone. A simple handling is possible with bonded asbestos that is in good condition and where few fibres are released. That is the lightest and therefore most economical approach. A hermetic zone with negative pressure is necessary for damaged or friable asbestos. The space is completely sealed off, negative pressure is created, and our workers operate with full protection. That requires time and materials, and that is reflected in the price. It is the difference between a job of half a day or a job that takes several days.
A large asbestos roof of 200 square metres is a substantial job, but the preparatory work is relatively limited. As a result, the price per square metre is lower than for a small piece of 10 square metres in a hard-to-reach location. The amount of waste also plays a role. The asbestos must be packed airtight and transported to a licensed processor. Those costs are partly fixed, so you will also see that reflected in the total.
A flat roof that a cherry picker can easily reach is a different world from a cramped crawl space where you have to move on your stomach. The more difficult the access, the more time and materials are needed. Sometimes scaffolding has to be erected, sometimes we have to carefully dismantle a roof without breaking it. These are all things we assess on site. A correct price therefore starts with a site visit. Only then can we see what is going on and make a fair quote.
You cannot trust an asbestos removal company that gives a price based on a photo or a phone call. There are too many variables. Is the material damaged? Is there paint on it? Is it glued or screwed? Which technique is needed? We come by, inspect the situation, and then give a price that is accurate.
An asbestos removal project also includes proper disposal. We handle that completely. For asbestos roof removal, specific rules apply, especially if you also want to apply for a grant via Mijn VerbouwPremie. We know those procedures.
