From pipe insulation in a 1970s cellar to an asbestos roof on a terraced house: we remove it safely and in line with regulations.

If you buy or renovate an old house in Ghent, you will sooner or later come across asbestos. It is often found in places you don't immediately look: around the central heating pipes in the cellar, under a vinyl floor covering in the utility room, or as corrugated sheets above a canopy. In a city with so many properties built before 2001, this is not the exception but the norm.
Credim is a licensed asbestos removal contractor and, operating from Stabroek, also works in Ghent and the rest of East Flanders. We know the typical Ghent housing types: the single-family homes from the 1930s, the social housing estates from the 1970s, and the many converted properties in the neighbourhoods around the city centre. In each of these houses, the same thing turns up: asbestos that was once perfectly ordinary but now has to be dealt with according to the rules for asbestos removal.
Pipe insulation is the classic one. In the cellars of houses built up to the 1980s, the heating pipes are often covered with a white or grey, crumbly layer, sometimes wrapped in hessian. It looks like plaster, but it is asbestos. As long as you don't touch it, the risk is limited. But during a renovation or a leak, dust is released. Then it is essential to act quickly and correctly. You can read more about this technique on our page about asbestos pipe insulation removal.
In addition, we see many old vinyl floors. These vinyl floor coverings and tiles, common between 1955 and 1985, often have an asbestos-containing backing layer. The risk lies mainly in the black, brittle bituminous adhesive underneath. You must not remove this yourself. We do this in a sealed-off area. For those who want to know more about these floors: asbestos vinyl floor removal goes into more detail.
And then there are the roofs. Corrugated sheets on a garage, a shed, or a canopy: they are still widely present in Ghent. These sheets are firmly bonded, but they weather over the years. When dismantling them, dust is released. We use the correct technique, depending on the condition of the material. Sometimes a simple procedure is sufficient, sometimes we build a hermetic zone. The page about asbestos roof removal provides more information on this approach.

Every asbestos removal starts with a site visit. We look at what is there, in what condition it is, and how we can remove it safely. Then we plan the work. Depending on the job, we work in a hermetic zone, with a glove bag, or as a simple procedure. These are the three legal techniques that Credim masters.
The asbestos is packed airtight in foil of at least 100 microns. We arrange for disposal at a licensed processing facility. You don't have to go to the recycling centre with a bag full of asbestos. We take care of that.
An asbestos certificate is not the same as asbestos removal. The certificate is drawn up by a certified asbestos expert and issued by OVAM. We do not produce certificates, but we do remove the asbestos that the certificate identifies. If you already have a certificate, we can get started quickly.
If you live in Ghent and are unsure whether there is asbestos in your home, contact us for a free site visit. We will take a look with you and honestly tell you what needs to be done. And what doesn't, because not everything is equally urgent. That way you know where you stand.
